What to do when constipated?

Constipation Woes

How many of us have faced a situation during which we are getting really late for office, but cannot even leave the bathroom because the bowel movements haven’t taken place as yet? Also, we are afraid that if we don’t clear our stomach before setting put for office, we may feel uncomfortable on the way? All of us are aware that public toilets are not the most hygienic places and are best avoided.

In this context, we must note that a number of us who face this issue are afflicted with constipation. This means the bowel movements of a constipated person are either less than normal or difficult. Especially, it is a cause of concern if three days have passed without bowel movements. This is because stool hardens after three days and becomes more difficult to pass.

In this context, people try to take laxatives in order to get rid of constipation. However, laxatives are not always a good idea because they might have some side-effects. So, it is always better to implement some home remedies in order to combat constipation.

Remedies to Combat Constipation

To begin with, a constipation, patient must maintain a regular regime of physical exercise. During exercise, the muscles of the intestine are active. They are made to expand and contract, thus mitigating the chances of combating constipation.

Apart from this, a person should drink two to four extra glasses of water throughout the day. This should be done unless the doctor has imposed some restrictions on the intake of water for some reason. Water keeps the stool naturally soft. Now, if a person drinks less water on a regular basis, without the recommendation of the doctor, the stopl may harden and become dry. This may lead to difficulty in letting the stool pass through the intestine.

Along with this, the patient needs to check his diet. Most probably, this is because constipation takes place as a result of the diet. A healthy dose of fiber should be included in the diet. The reason behind this is that fiber adds weight to the stool, thus making it easier to pass through the intestine. Keeping this in mind, one should include whole grain bread, fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh fruits in the diet. However it is advisable to let the doctor prescribe how much fiber needs to be included in the diet. This is because the excessive consumption of fiber may, in turn lead to bloating and gas.

However, one must not resist the urge to pass bowel. If the patient feels the urge, he should use the bathroom immediately. Often, patients complain that the washroom in their office or educational institution is too dirty to use. However, if the signal sent by the body is initially ignored, it gradually stops sending out signals.

In this context, one should keep in mind that eating is a natural stimulant for bowels. So, a constipation patient should set up a regular meal schedule.
